Christopher McCandless is an idealistic young man in the 1990s who changed his name to Alexander Supertramp. From here, he will leave all his possessions and savings to charity and venture into a new world in Alaska. There, he will begin to reflect on life and get in touch with Nature.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

Most of the adventurous people of this generation have risked much of their lives to achieve their dreams. The road to our goals is full of moments when we feel like stopping time, sitting down, and reflecting on how far we want to go and if we can achieve it. When we travel and let destiny take over our path, we can be very fearful; however, at the end of the road, there will always be an answer to all our concerns.

Adventures are about entering the unknown, getting to know new worlds and cultures, and having moments of reflection, like watching a sunrise or sunset. These things are so valuable, and they are totally free. That’s what travel and life are all about, to step into and leap of faith into unknown worlds to know, perhaps, our mission on earth.

Synopsis:

One day, Alexis, a teenager living on the French coast, finds himself in trouble at sea and is saved by David. From here, Alexis begins to live a transition to maturity, going through moments where he will explore his emotions through art, friendship, and sexuality.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

This is an LGBTQ+ and beautiful coming-of-age movie that transports us to the French coasts of the 80s. When I saw this movie, I had a tremendous desire to travel to France and live a teenage romance. I believe that when we are at the beach, we often find ourselves with that feeling of going out dancing, relaxing, or waiting for love to come into our lives.

When we least expect it, the roads of life always make us meet people and moments that mark our lives forever. This is one of the best traveling movies for me. I could interpret this movie as one that shows us that by going on an adventure to another country or a faraway place, we allow ourselves to grow as people both culturally and personally. Shout out to Mamma Mia! which also gives me these lovely European-summer vibes!

My Own Private Idaho (1991)

traveling movies
📷 by Melinda Jeanne Pehanick

Synopsis:

A young man from a powerful family, upon meeting a young narcoleptic hustler, begins a captivating adventure through the Northwest United States.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

Although this is one of the movies that has brought me to tears, it is an opportunity to make us reflect on how interesting it can be to take an unknown path that may seem dangerous to us, but in the end, it shows us a huge life lesson that will mark us forever.

Furthermore, the feeling that it leaves you is something like starting to plan your next road trip or venturing out to meet people on your trips who make your life wonderful or simply leave you a unique memory in your experience as a traveler.

This is one of the traveling movies that does not precisely show us a fun side of life; instead, it tells us about a physical and terrestrial journey towards our deepest emotions and desires. Imagine being camping in some forest, lighting a campfire, and starting to talk about your most incredible trips and experiences. Well, that’s what this movie feels like.

Eat, Pray, Love (2010)

📷 by Cho Seward

Synopsis:

Liz thought her life was perfect. She had a lovely house, a husband, and a fantastic career. However, one day, she realizes that life no longer satisfies her and begins a journey of self-discovery that takes her to Italy, India, and Indonesia.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

Basically, this movie is a cultural odyssey that shows us how important it is in the life of every human being to travel, explore, and discover new destinations to know more about ourselves. This is a classic among the best-traveling movies in history. The way Julia Roberts (Liz) doesn’t hold hands during her adventures gives us a feeling that we are traveling, eating, and learning a lot about the new cultures she meets along the way.

Spirituality is another factor that many travelers take into account to be able to enjoy and discover new destinations. As well as the human curiosity that always takes us to wonderful and extraordinary places. In this movie, we can realize how all these factors help us leave our world to know beyond what we are used to. This movie is an example of this.

Bob, who is a famous actor, goes on a trip to Japan. There, he meets the young and beautiful Charlotte. Both begin to open up about their dissatisfaction with their lives, which increasingly creates a solid and endearing friendship.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

I’ll be honest with you: traveling to Tokyo is one of my biggest dreams. This is why this movie inspired me a lot in terms of great traveling movies. In addition, it tells us another story of what it is like to meet people on your trips who make your adventures a beautiful lesson in life. Furthermore, the vibe and aura of the photography, the city landscapes, and the dialogues of this movie make us travel to Japan and teach us about its culture.

Also, it shows us how beautiful it is to run into someone; no matter which part of the world we are in, someone can make your adventure an unforgettable experience for your heart, mind, and soul. Sometimes, our soulmates knock on the door in the form of friendship. I like this movie so much, but sometimes, the pace of the movie seemed a bit slow to me.

Why do we think these are perfect traveling movies?

I consider myself an overly romantic and corny person. This is why I always imagine fictitious scenarios in my head where something like these movies happens to me when I travel to Europe. But the truth is that I am a great believer that the connections we make in our lives have a deeper meaning. A love like this only happens once in a lifetime, that feeling of having found that important piece that was missing in the puzzle of your life.

We can feel that same sensation when we travel for the first time to that place that we have dreamed of for years. When your travel bucket list finally comes true, that feeling of fulfillment in your life invades your entire heart. Likewise, this is what it feels like to find your soulmate with whom you can travel and discover amazing destinations that make you connect even more as a couple.

Synopsis:

Sailor, an aggressive ex-con, is paroled. Once outside, he goes in search of his girlfriend Lula Pace Fortune. Lula is the daughter of a wealthy woman with mental problems who will do everything possible to end the relationship of this fun and strange couple.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

The truth is that this movie is not at all a movie that makes you say, “Wow, right now I’m taking the next flight to anywhere.” However, it is one of the first movies that encouraged me to take my first road trip with friends. It is a real look at everything we experience on our path to happiness.

Once again, we do not find characters who face thousands of adversities, but the rawness and black humor used in this movie make it a fun adventure full of partying, alcohol, and fantasies that will make you say “I need to have such an experience.” crazy like that when I go on a road trip.”

The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

📷 by Nela

Synopsis:

This movie follows young Che Guevara’s transformative 1952 journey across South America. The road trip awakens his social consciousness, shaping his revolutionary ideals through encounters with diverse people and landscapes.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

Another classic on our top of traveling movies. It is a great movie that makes adventurers at heart want to travel. It’s about two friends (one of them is Che Guevara) who ride a motorcycle across South America. They see beautiful places and meet many different people. This movie shows how exciting and fun travel can be. It makes us want to go on their own adventures and see new things in each country they visit.

The movie also shows how travel can change people. As the friends travel, they learn about the world and grow as people. They see how others live and become more understanding. This movie is one of the best traveling movies because it makes people want to explore and learn about the world. It shows that travel is not just about seeing new places, but also about growing as a person.

Easy Rider (1969)

Synopsis:

Wyatt and Billy begin a motorcycle adventure through different places in the United States. What they do not imagine is that they will be the target of prejudice, hatred, and intolerance on the part of the conservative inhabitants of the small towns they visit.

Why do we think it is a perfect traveling movie?

To close with a flourish, the movie that made me love road trips and adventure stories across the country, the great work of art called Easy Rider. This psychedelic trip through the eyes of adventurers is one of the best sensations I have felt in my life. If I could watch a movie again like it was the first time, this would definitely be it.

The way in which the adventures of these motorcyclists are narrated, the people they meet along the roads, and their desire to satisfy that search for complete satisfaction is wonderful. In every destination we visit, we are always curious about the cultural and social factors. Therefore, I think that after watching this movie, every time we visit a small town somewhere in the world, it is important to always know more about the locals so that we can enjoy our trip fully.

That sensation of freedom that we feel on our trips is what I perceived when I watched this amazing film. Although it makes me think, it would be wonderful to save the memories of your trips forever and see them whenever you want before something bad happens and you forget everything…
